TESTAMENT Film NEW Music Video For "Native Blood" - Images Available!

Earlier this week, Thrash Metallers TESTAMENT shot a music video for the song "Native Blood" from their upcoming album 'Dark Roots Of Earth' (set to be released on July 27, 2012 [Europe] and July 31, 2012 [North America] via Nuclear Blast Records). Guitarist Eric Peterson told Greece's Rock Overdose webzine that the clip was going to be filmed "on an Indian reservation." He added, "It's about people who were oppressed in life. We haven't done [a video] in a while, so we're kind of excited about that."

Here are a few images captured by the band during the video shoot:

KILL DEVIL HILL
the NEW project featuring acclaimed drummer Vinny Appice (Black Sabbath, Heaven and Hell, Dio) and bassist Rex Brown, (Pantera, Down) guitar slinger Mark Zavon and lead vocalist Dewey Bragg have confirmed a NEW string of tour dates for late this summer beginning August 1st.  More dates are expected to be announced shortly. A list of confirmed dates can be found below.

KILL DEVIL HILL's self-titled debut album was released May 22nd via Steamhammer/SPV and landed at #9 on the Billboard Top New Artist Albums (HeatSeekers) Chart, #41 on the Top Hard Music Chart and #50 on the Independent Album Chart.

It's not easy to say what catches the listener's attention first on Kill Devil Hill, the debut album by the newly formed band of the same name: the strong guitar hooks, the killer grooves, the dynamic production or the potent vocal melodies. Rex Brown, bassist of this supergroup and erstwhile member of Pantera and Down sees KILL DEVIL HILL in its entirety as an extremely exciting NEW band "To me, this band is a musical adventure trip," he reckons. Brown knows what he's talking about, after all he was involved in some of the most important Rock and Metal recordings of the past 30 years. KAMELOT Announce The Name Of Their NEW Vocalist!

The American/German symphonic Metal band KAMELOT is proud to announce another key piece leading to the release of their NEW studio album.

A question foremost in every KAMELOT fan's mind has been: Who is the group's new lead singer?*
Band mastermind and guitarist Thomas Youngblood has now revealed: "The NEW man is Scandinavian Tommy Karevik!"

The general public may not be overly familiar with the 30 year old Swede, Karevik, but people in the industry know him as the immensely talented frontman of the Swedish band, Seventh Wonder. Youngblood states: "We had around 800 candidates for the vacant position, among them a number of really renowned musicians, and having to reject them really wasn't easy. We want to thank all the applicants, thank you for your understanding and we wish you all lots of success in the future!"

The search for Tommy Karevik.....

In their search for a NEW singer, Thomas Youngblood found YouTube to be an amazing tool: "I listened to a clip of a studio production featuring Tommy and have to confess that his performance really amazed me. His approach to melodies and themes suits KAMELOT perfectly, and during our European shows we had plenty of opportunity to find out what a great guy he is."

Tommy first appeared as one of the guest singers on KAMELOT's very successful 2011 "Pandemonium World Tour". Live footage below. Tommy states: "The tour was a lot of fun and I met a lot of nice people and got some good experience. The guys were super nice and we had a great time together! By then I was really into the band's music and had fallen in love with the amazingly loyal and dedicated fans at every show."

Karevik is thrilled about his NEW position: "I am so honored to now be a part of this family and I can`t wait to move into the NEW era of the band together with the guys. I fully understand that this comes with great responsibility and that it will be a big challenge for me as a singer as well as a person, but you can rest assured I will give it my all. From this day, a new journey has begun and I am really eager to meet you all along the way to share my passion for this music!"

KAMELOT's NEW album is planned for a September 2012 release, which coincides with the beginning a massive World Tour that will bring the band to nearly every continent on the planet. See Kamelot.com for already scheduled concert dates!

The State Of The Music Industry And How It Affects EVERYONE - Read Carefully!

David Lower (co-founder of alternative rock acts Camper Van Beethoven and Cracker), recently shared with the world a lengthy, detailed overview of the hard times that EVERYONE within the music industry is facing in a big part due to "new" technologies that have completely changed the way the public gains access to NEW releases and their favorite artists.

Here are some of the VERY valid points he made:

1) No, artists can't simply tour and sell t-shirts.

It doesn't work.  In fact, shockingly few indie artists can pull this off, except for those developed at some point by the major labels (ie, Amanda Palmer) or a serious group of professionals.  Most of the others that are managing to squeak out a living on the road are doing it with great difficulty and are working non-stop.

2) The recording is now effectively worth $0; its surrounding ecosystem has collapsed.

Some people buys CDs.  Less purchase vinyl.  iTunes downloads are still increasing.  But averaged across all formats and personal valuations, the recording has effectively become worthless.  And that has had drastic repercussions for the music industry, and the lives of otherwise creative and productive artists.

3) Spotify is not a beneficial solution for artists.  Certainly not right now, and quite possibly, never.

Will Spotify ever put a meal on an artist's table?  That's extremely speculative.  Sure, it might eventually mimic Sweden-like penetration in the US.  But that is not happening right now; it's not a fair solution for artists right now.  Instead, it is shuttling people like CEO Daniel Ek towards stratospheric riches, fattening major labels, and potentially giving Goldman Sachs bankers another joyride.

4) Kickstarter will mean something to artists in the future, but only to a relative few.

Amanda Palmer may hold the world record for a long time, but there will be other Kickstarter stories.  Some will come out of nowhere, most will involve previously-established artists, particularly those already developed by a major label or similar entity.  This will not replace the vast financing once offered by recording labels.

5) DIY is rarely effective, and almost always gets drowned by the flood of competing content.

It doesn't matter if you're singing directly into the ear of your prospective fan.  Because they're listening to Spotify on Dre headphones while texting and playing Angry Birds.   Some can cut through, but most cannot without serious teams, serious top-level marketing and serious media muscle.  Justin Bieber ultimately needed the machine, no matter how beautifully his YouTube story gets spun.

6) Sadly, most artists are worse off in the digital era than they were in the physical era.

Actually, we have David Lowery himself to thank for this realization.  Because the implosion of the recording has impacted nearly every other aspect of music monetization (though certainly not music creativity itself.)  And its replacement is generally a fraction of what a 'lucky' artist could expect in an earlier era.

Again, all great for fans like Emily White, but not so great for everyone else.

7) Younger people mostly do not buy music; they do buy hardware and access.

They gravitate towards free digital content, and occassionally pay for things like concerts when they have the money.  Emily White isn't a fourteen year-old, she's a young adult that probably doesn't want the morality trip.  And neither does anyone else - regardless of the generation.

8) Older people buy less music than before; they more frequently buy hardware and access.

If you really want to sell a marked-up bundle, make another Susan Boyle.  It's still a market that doesn't revolve around free music and constant fan contact.  But older people file-trade, they stream, they steal and they buy less than before.

9) Google is a major part of the problem.

Lowery is right.  Google is not interested in protecting content creators; their interests lie elsewhere.  Copyright is a nuisance to them, unless it involves their own code and algorithms.  In fact, anything beyond the DMCA erodes their ability to serve customers, remain competitive, and make money. Which is why the Pirate Bay is one of the 'hottest' searches, and why adding 'mp3' to any artist search produces pages and pages of results.

10) You are a major part of the problem.

Just because it's legal, doesn't mean it's helping musicians.  It's not file-trading, but the payouts on Spotify, Pandora, Turntable.fm, or whatever else are shockingly low.  It's a rounding error, towards 0. The paradox is that music fans are living in abundance, while artists are barely getting scraps.

11) Google, the ISPs, and hardware manufacturers have won.

It doesn't matter how brutal the war with Hollywood becomes; how many Dotcom mansions get raided.  Music fans aren't going to start buying albums again; in fact, beyond the playlist, the concept of pre-packaged bundling will become increasingly foreign to newer generations.

It's not about who's right, it's now the world the entire music community lives in.

12) Everyone lies about stealing.

I've only heard a few people actually admit to file-trading: my close friends, Bob Lefsetz, and Sergey Brin.  If you have an iTunes collection of more than a few thousand songs, you've almost certainly swapped, torrented, or swapped hard drives in your life.  And almost everyone has a collection of a few thousand songs.

13) Mass-marketed, 'lottery winner' style successes will continue.

Niches are available and sometimes responsive; more often, top-down mass marketing wins.  And most musicians are playing extremely bad odds.

14)  This ISN'T the best time to be in the music industry.

Conferences like MIDEM make money off this sort of Kool-Aid optimism.  But I work in the music business right now; I was at a major label in the late 90s.  And the reality is that this is the greatest time ever for fans, but definitely NOT the best time for those trying to make money from those fans.  And as David Lowery so darkly described, it can be one incredibly depressing trip for even a 'successful' artist.

That's the reality we now live in, and you really have David Lowery to thank for making it obvious. But what do you think about all of this? Leave your comments below.

CHILDREN OF BODOM Ink Record Deal With Nuclear Blast Records - Official Statement From Alexi Laiho Available!

CHILDREN OF BODOM (also known as COB) have inked a worldwide recording deal (excluding Japan) with Nuclear Blast Records. The celebrated Metal label -- who worked with the band over the early stages of its career -- is proud to announce the renewed partnership with the world famous band. COB, who kicked off a year long celebration of its 15th anniversary with a successful North American tour alongside label mates ELUVEITIE, have a NEW studio album planned for release in 2013.

"We had a good, productive and long run with Spinefarm Records for fifteen years and now it’s simply just time for a change," said CHILDREN OF BODOM frontman/guitarist Alexi "Wildchild" Laiho. "I’m absolutely stoked to start the NEW chapter of COB's career with Nuclear Blast and look forward to working with them."

"Personally, I am so excited to get to work with Nuclear Blast again." adds COB bassist player Henkka T. Blacksmith. "We have such good memories from the beginning of our career with them. We know the people already and we know how committed they are in doing Metal!"

Nuclear Blast Europe A&R rep Jaap Wagemaker shares: "15 years ago we were introduced to a very young band from Finland who blew us away with their track ‘Deadnight Warrior’ from their debut album 'Something Wild' - and their music was indeed something wild! Fast-tapping guitar work combined with incredible keyboards and angry vocals… it was the start of the career of CHILDREN OF BODOM. Nuclear Blast released their first three albums outside of Finland: 'Something Wild', 'Hatebreeder', and 'Follow The Reaper', albums that became classics in the history of Metal. Unfortunately, after the third album, we went separate ways but we have always been following them and stayed in contact. CHILDREN OF BODOM became a very big band worldwide and now the time has come to welcome them back home! We at Nuclear Blast are very happy to see CHILDREN OF BODOM rejoining the Nuclear family and are looking forward to working their next albums. You can be sure that ‘something wild’ will come your way!"

Recently, Finland's finest Heavy Music export CHILDREN OF BODOM released 'Holiday At Lake Bodom (15 Years Of Wasted Youth)', a very special CD+DVD career retrospective in celebration of the band's 15th anniversary.

THY WILL BE DONE Premiere NEW Song "You, The Apathy Divine"; Band To Perform This Weekend At "Orion Music + More"!

Rhode Island's THY WILL BE DONE recently completed work on a brand new EP that is slated for release later this summer. The band, renowned for their DIY approach, engineered the EP themselves and teamed up once again with acclaimed metal producer Zeuss to mix their six brand new studio tracks. With influences and roots that harkens the listener back to metal's glory days, and songs and arrangements that echo the voice of the oppressed and broken, the end result is a release that brings hope and far surpasses its predecessors, and in all aspects possesses the capabilities of cementing THY WILL BE DONE's position in the metal world. More details, including title and release date will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Frontman J. Costa spoke about the new song "You, The Apathy Divine":

"The song, 'You, The Apathy Divine' occurs in what is the proverbial middle of the EP and is a pivotal point of the recording with its own musical and lyrical intermezzo. For me, its timbre exudes the anguish and despair of someone dealing with infidelity after having just lost multiple relatives. That's what happened in my life and I needed to express it."
Today Revolvermag.com the online home of Revolver Magazine is hosting an exclusive stream of a new song from the forthcoming EP. Be one of the first to hear "You, The Apathy Divine" HERE courtesy of Revolver Magazine.

THY WILL BE DONE will be taking part in the "Orion Music + More Festival" curated by METALLICA. The event is set for this Saturday June 23rd and Sunday June 24th at Bader Field in Atlantic City, NJ. More information can be found at: http://www.orionmusicandmore.com

Following their appearance at the "Orion Music + More Festival" the band will be headed to Japan for a co-headlining tour with Japanese crossover legends The Aggressive Dogs. The tour will kick off on June 29th in Kasihwa and runs through July 8th in Nagoya. A list of confirmed dates can be found below.

With this current line-up of J. Costa on vocals, Kurt Fraunfelter on rhythm guitar, Chris Drapeau on lead guitar, Brendan Misturado on bass and Jay Waterman on drums, a plethora of foreign and domestic performances, and literally hundreds of thousands of miles traveled, it appears that values and drive mixed with an old school metal and rock 'n' roll upbringing have brought together a juggernaut of a band that's clearing a path with a working-class ideology.

THY WILL BE DONE represents another chapter in the evolution of Heavy Metal. Their 2012 dose blends the Thrash and Groove elements that offered some of the late eighties and early nineties most memorable bands and albums, and yes, there are even solos too. THY WILL BE DONE is poised and ready to continue the heavy metal lineage and illuminate a new generation with the ways of the old.

THY WILL BE DONE Tour Dates:
