METALLICA Celebrates 24 Years Of '...And Justice For All'!

On this day, twenty four years ago, METALLICA released their epic album '...And Justice for All'. The bands fourth studio album was released on August 25, 1988 via Elektra Records. It was the group's first full studio album to feature bassist Jason Newsted, following the death of Cliff Burton in 1986. '...And Justice for All' was certified 8x platinum by the RIAA on June 9, 2003.

The front cover depicts the statue of Lady Justice cracked, bound by ropes, her breasts exposed, and both of her scales filled with dollars. The words "…And Justice for All" are written in graffiti-like lettering to the right. The cover art was created by Stephen Gorman, based on a concept developed by James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich. '...And Justice for All' was Metallica's final collaboration with longtime producer Flemming Rasmussen. The album was initially released on one vinyl disc, but soon after re-released (without additional tracks) as a double-album.

Track-listing:

1. "Blackened"
2. "...And Justice for All"
3. "Eye of the Beholder"
4. "One"
5. "The Shortest Straw"
6. "Harvester of Sorrow"
7. "The Frayed Ends of Sanity"
8. "To Live Is to Die"
9. "Dyers Eve"

Crank '...And Justice For All" right now!

As previously reported, METALLICA will be releasing a 3D movie next summer! And guess what! You can be in the first-ever Metalli-3D! Here is the bands official statement:

"You may have heard us mention just once or twice (or 700 times!) that a Metalli-3D movie is in the works... we now need your help to finish filming it!! This Monday, August 27, we will be shooting what we hope will be the final live portion of the movie and have our last chance for quite some time to play on the gigantic, massive over-the-top stage that we rolled out in Mexico City, took to Edmonton and end our film excursion/mini tour with in Vancouver. As we have been saying a lot recently we would love to have you join us and be a part of our movie making adventure.

"Here's how it works: We will be running though the full live show one last time at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, but unlike the Friday and Saturday shows there will be lots of breaks in it to allow for cameras and lights to be repositioned as the director sees fit. Since it is way more fun for us to have YOU there, tickets will be available for just $5 (no extra fees or service charges!) and all the proceeds will benefit the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.

Click HERE to obtain a password and then head over to www.ticketmaster.ca. Fan Club members should log in to www.metallica.com NOW for more details about a special pre-sale starting later today. Finally, tickets will be available to the general public Sunday, August 26 at 9:00 AM. There will be no floor tickets for sale (too many cameras!) and there is a four ticket per person limit. Lower bowl tickets will be assigned a section, but are G.A. within that section.

"Doors open at 5:00 PM for this "show," and we hit the stage at 6:30 PM sharp... we're starting a little early to allow the movie people to do what they do. So please come and plan to stay for a full night of fun and games... and who knows, maybe we'll see you on the big screen next summer!"

The Roots Of Metal God Rob Halford As He Celebrates His 61st Birthday!

© Retna
Metal God Robert John Arthur "Rob" Halford from British Heavy Metal legends Judas Priest, is celebrating his 61st birthday today! Halford made the world more Metal when his mother gave birth to him on August 25, 1951 in Sutton Coldfield, England, but was raised in Walsall (which was then a part of Staffordshire).

Halford sang in numerous bands before joining Judas Priest in the early 70s, and single-handily changing Heavy Metal forever. Some of the bands he sang with before joining Judas Priest, were Athens Wood, Lord Lucifer, Abraxas, Thark and Hiroshima.

Thanks to his hard work with Judas Priest, the Grammy Award-winning band became a cult within the Heavy Metal. As a result, Halford was nicknamed the "Metal God" after the Judas Priest song of the same name from 1980's British Steel.

The Metal God is is considered one of the most consistently powerful singers in Rock, and he possesses a wide vocal range, and is famous for his high-pitched, operatic, soaring screams. In addition to his work with Judas Priest, he has been involved with several side projects, including Fight, 2wo and Halford. He is also credited as the first openly gay mainstream Heavy Metal star, having come out in 1998.

HEAVY Birthday Rob and we wish you many more Metallic years!

GWAR-B-Q A Huge Success Even Though "Attack Of The Show" Hottie Didn't Make It!

"Beyond our wildest dreams, and they can get pretty kinky, we were almost completely 100 % satisfied with this years GWAR-B-Q", said lead singer Oderus Urungus, reached at his Antarctic bungalo. "Everything went well, except that hottie from Attack of the Show didn't show up... but I suppose that is understandable. We did feed her to a worm last year!"

From everything to the weather (which was an enjoyable 85 degrees), to the authorities (who seemed to be enjoying themselves), to the bands (who all put on amazing sets), all conditions were in perfect alignment and the much-anticipated event went off without a hitch... well, almost.

Slave Pit spokesman Dave Brockie had this to say about the event: "The "Meat and Beat" went great, and Oderus stayed in the area an extra three hours to make sure everybody got to hang out with their Lord and Master. It was a great line-up of great bands, and we got to see both Sleazy P. AND The Sexecutioner! It was a huge improvement over last year (when we didn't even manage to have it outside) - we made big strides this year and I am sure next year we will get even bigger and better. Rest assured any hiccups we had have been noted and will be sorted out for next year's event... so see ya at GWAR-B-Q 2013!"

Perhaps the best way to judge the success of the event is to hear it from the fans themselves-

Worth the drive down from Delaware for sure!!! Always up for GWAR especially when they bring Sexy back!!! And Ghoul kicked ass too!!
-Tom Flynn

It was still worth every second, dying of thirst or not. I was there for GWAR and to have a good time which I did. And that's all that mattered.
-Kristen Maresca

I had the greatest weekend of my life. My son and I traveled from Florida and it was worth every penny we paid!
-Lonny Amendolea

Thanks to all of the people that made this awesome event happen. GWAR is currently working on a new album, the first since the passing of longtime guitarist Cory Smoot last year. Look for an announcement soon regarding GWAR's search for a new Scumdog as GWAR prepares to debut the newest member of the GWAR tribe on this fall's "Fate or Chaos" North American tour.

DESTRUCTION Reveal Details About NEW Album!

Iconic German Thrash Metal trio, DESTRUCTION, are currently locked up at Gernhart Studios in Troisdorf, Germany working on their 30th anniversary album entitled 'Spiritual Genocide'. The band is working with engineer Martin Buchwalter and are shooting for a November release via Nuclear Blast Records. The record will be mixed by Andy Classen, feature guest appearances by Thomas "Angelripper" Such (SODOM), Andreas "Gerre" Geremia (TANKARD) and Ol Drake (EVILE). In addition, the 'Mad Butcher'/'Release From Agony' lineup of DESTRUCTION — featuring guitarist Harry Wilkens and drummer Oliver Kaiser — will reunite for one song.

Commented DESTRUCTION vocalist/bassist Marcel "Schmier" Schirmer: "For this anniversary album we did a really great job. Our new drummer, Vaaver [real name: Wawrzyniec Dramowicz; INDUKTI, ex-UNSUN], opens up new possibilities of course.

"On this album there are no limits.

"So fast, brutal and yet groovy we haven't ever sounded, probably!

"Also the guest musicians are very special this time: with Gerre and Tom Angelripper, our old friends and companions, are with us, the original 'Mad Butcher'/'Release From Agony' lineup is doing one song and with Ol Drake, we got the hottest young thrash guitarist for a few solos on the album!

"Germany's best extreme metal producer Andy Classen will take care for the brutal and raw production!

"The album will destroy even more than [2011's] 'Day Of Reckoning': fast riffs, double bass attacks and brutal groovy songs, I think this time we found the 100% right mix!

"Also the 'Mad Butcher' returns to the cover.

"Cool artworks are very important for us. For the new thrash thunderstorm, our artist Gyula created a real hammer again! The artwork makes clear immediately where to go — FULL THROTTLE — as it has to be."

DESTRUCTION's 11th studio release 'Day Of Reckoning' (Nuclear Blast) - the first album to feature NEW drummer, Vaaver (Indukti, ex-Unsun) – debuted at #54 on the Hard Music Albums chart, #58 on the New Artist/Heatseekers Album chart, and #143 on the Independent Current Albums chart the week following its release in March 2011. The album entered Germany’s Media Control chart at #95.

PAPA ROACH Pulls Out From The Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival, Main Stage Bands To Perform Longer Sets!

This just in! Hard Rock band PAPA ROACH has been forced to pull out from all remaining dates of the Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival. Apparently vocalist Jacoby Shaddix has been diagnosed with a nodule on his left vocal cord, and will undergo corrective surgery to remove the nodule and prevent further damage. Here is what Shaddix had to say about this:

"It's no secret that I've been having issues with my voice lately. I was hoping to be able to go out there and kill it on this tour by resting and doing vocal exercises, but my voice has just gone out on me. I hate to let our fans down, but unfortunately surgery is the only way to fix it. The last thing we want to do is give our fans less than 100% every night. We know they'll understand and we'll be back better than ever."

"It was amazing having PAPA ROACH on the road with us for the first few Uproar shows. We're disappointed that they can't continue for the rest of the tour, but Jacoby's health is the priority and we wish him a speedy recovery," says Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival co-producer John Oakes.

As of today (Friday, August 24), the Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival main stage schedule will be adjusted to allow longer performances from SHINEDOWN, GODSMACK, STAIND and ADELITAS WAY.

The Legacy Of ALICE IN CHAINS' Layne Staley!

Earlier this year, marked the 10th death anniversary of the late great Layne Staley (vocalist and frontman of ALICE IN CHAINS). Staley died on April 5, 2002 in Seattle, Washington, U.S.

Earlier this week, Staley who was born on August 22, 1967 in Kirkland, Washington, U.S., would have celebrated his 45th birthday.

Layne Staley was born to Phil Staley and Nancy Staley (née McCallum) in Kirkland, Washington. When he was was seven years old his parents got divorced, after which he was raised by his mother and stepfather, Jim Elmer (whose last name he took while enrolled in Meadowdale High School). He was raised Catholic.

He would describe the experience of witnessing his parents' divorce: "My world became a nightmare, there were just shadows around me. I got a call saying that my dad had died, but my family always knew he was around doing all kinds of drugs. Since that call I always was wondering, 'Where is my dad?' I felt so sad for him and I missed him. He dropped out of my life for 15 years."

Staley's musical career began when he  started playing drums at the age of 12 years old. He jammed with various glam bands in his early teens, but Staley wanted to become a singer. In 1985, Staley formed a band called Sleze, which also featured Johnny Bacolas and James Bergstrom (who later started Second Coming). With the addition of guitarist Nick Pollock in 1986, Sleze morphed into Alice In Chains, a band which Staley said "dressed in drag and played speed Metal."

The inception of Alice N' Chains saw the band performing around the Seattle area playing Slayer and Armored Saint covers. This all changed when Staley met guitarist Jerry Cantrell while working at Music Bank rehearsal studios, and the two fast friends lived as roommates for over a year in the dilapidated rehearsal space they shared.

Alice N' Chains soon disbanded and Staley joined a funk band who at the time also required a guitarist. He asked Cantrell to join as a sideman. Cantrell agreed on condition that Staley join Cantrell's band, which at the time included drummer Sean Kinney and bassist Mike Starr. In 1986, Staley met Seattle underground guitarist Tim Barnes at a local Seattle bar. Barnes would later be offered a position in Alice N' Chains but declined. Eventually the funk project broke up and in 1987 Staley joined Cantrell on a full-time basis. The band eventually took the name of ALICE IN CHAINS, and quickly became a musical powerhouse!

On April 19, 2002, Staley's accountants contacted Staley's mother Nancy McCallum and informed her that no money had been withdrawn from the singer's bank account in two weeks. McCallum then placed a call with 911 to say "she hadn't heard from… [Staley] in about two weeks." The police went with McCallum and her husband to Staley's home, "When police kicked in the door to Layne Staley's University District apartment on April 19, there, on a couch, lit by a flickering TV, next to several spray-paint cans on the floor, not far from a small stash of cocaine, near two crack pipes on the coffee table, reposed the remains of the rock musician." The article also stated that the 6'1" Staley weighed just 86 pounds when his body was discovered.[35] The autopsy report later concluded that Staley had died after injecting a mixture of heroin and cocaine known as a "speedball".

In an interview on VH1's Celebrity Rehab with McCallum, former Alice in Chains bass player Mike Starr said that he spent time with Staley the day before he died as Starr's birthday was April 4. Starr claimed that Staley was very sick but would not call 911.

Please put your HORNS UP for Layne Staley and crank up some ALICE IN CHAINS in his memory!

Here is video of one of Staley's final performances with ALICE IN CHAINS!

CHTHONIC: Sexy Doris Photo Album “Set fire to the island” Revealed + NEW Single Announced For Preorder!

Having been chosen as FHM’s 100 Sexiest Women in the World for four consecutive years, and one of the Hottest Chicks in Metal by the US-based Revolver magazine, Doris, the bassist of Taiwanese Heavy Metal band Chthonic, now represents almost 100 pages of her unique sexiness with photos shot by master photographer Joshua Lin!

However loud the music may be, sometimes there's too little that can be said through music, when we actually have much to say. Therefore, here is it, a photo album with not many words, but tells many stories aloud.

This is an “accidental” book of images. At first, it was just a regular photo shooting for a fashion magazine, however, at Doris took part in brainstorming for themes, the ideas of struggling, repression, liberation, and freedom came up. As Joshua’s team fueled the project, it eventually became a complete and conceptual book of images shot in Green Island. Doris had different outfits to visualize the concepts of control on thoughts, censorship, twisted humanitarianism, strict surveillance and schizoid personality—in addition to her sexiness. Doris returns to her identity as a rock musician at the end to give birth to a new and free soul.

One of the most outstanding rockers, Doris has been on almost all rock magazines as well as fashion magazines, conquering the world with her unique sexiness. Joshua Lin, a renowned Taiwanese photographer who has taken perfect pictures for many celebrities in Taiwan. In 2012, Doris works with Joshua for the first time and traveled all the way to Green Island for an absolutely eye-catching photographic album.

The photo book may surprise you with large close-up raw shots, and images that show the artistic relationship between humans and the space. You may also take it as the “discovery channel”, as it would take you to coral reefs, coast, and caves of Green Island, it would also take you to the Human Rights Park where thousands of Taiwanese intellectuals were locked up by the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) regime.

Doris: Set Fire to the Island is the best choice whether you want to keep it for yourself, give it as a gift to your buddies, or share it with your girl friends. See more images HERE!

For those music lovers, Chthonic has specially composed a symphony with piano, strings, and wind music, so that you may enjoy it not only with your eyes, but also with your ears.

Let’s use our freedom to promote that of all human beings! 10% of the revenue from sales of the book would be donated to Amnesty International.

VISION OF DISORDER Premiere Music Video For “Set To Fail” & Do Not Disappoint!

Today VISION OF DISORDER discloses another NEW single from their anticipated pending full-length, 'The Cursed Remain Cursed', in the form of a video for the album’s second track, “Set To Fail.”

Stated guitarist Matt Baumbach: "’Set To Fail’ is a song that was literally finished the day before we went into the studio. [Mike] Kennedy showed up with this insane riff and it all came together very fast. This record is crazy in that some songs took three years and others took three days. It's by far one of our strongest tracks ever in my opinion and its gonna be insane live."

Vocalist Tim Williams added: “Set To Fail” was the last song to come together for The Cursed Remain Cursed writing sessions. When the track was played back over the studio speakers it was clear from the first thirty seconds we had a monster on our hands. The track represented everything VOD was, is and will be. All the elements and chaos VOD has to offer is within the track. When our friend Kirk Farrington approached us for a video shoot there was no doubt in our minds that this song would be it. Lyrically, the utmost honest and venomous track on the record, coming from a journey through the several levels of a personal hell so deep, that even the sun could cast no shadows.”

“Loveless,” the lead single and opening track from The Cursed Remain Cursed has already stormed into the Top 20 on CMJ’s Loud Rock Album chart, and is streaming via Lambgoat.com HERE!.

Set for release September 18th via Candlelight Records, VISION OF DISORDER’s 'The Cursed Remain Cursed' is the band’s first album to be released in over a decade. One of the most dynamic and cleverly destructive releases in the band's twenty year history, the record surges with over forty minutes of brand new material, produced by Will Putney (Shadows Fall, Suicide Silence), and mixed by Cameron Webb (Motörhead, Social Distortion).

VISION OF DISORDER live dates:

- 9/14/2012 The Underworld - London, UK
- 9/15/2012 Mojo Live - Manchester, UK
- 9/29/2012 Club Reverb - Reading, PA @ East Coast Tsunami Fest w/ Biohazard, Cro-Mags, One Life Crew, Madball, D.R.I., Sick Of It All, Agnostic Front

COAL CHAMBER To Perform First U.S. Show In Over 10 Years!

When Coal Chamber arrived to the Heavy Music scene in 1994, their music was assimilated by millions of fans worldwide thanks to their fresh sounding mix of Heavy Metal and Alternative Music blended with elements of Industrial Metal. Aside from their music, their gothic imagery also helped to captivate a ton of eye balls that were rather confused at what Coal Chamber was feeding to them. After a successful run that spanned from 1994 to 2003, Dez Fafara left the band due to internal problems. Shortly after he left the band, Dez formed DevilDriver and we all know the results of this crushing band by now: uncompromised hard hitting Heavy Metal!

After reuniting this past March for a series of concerts as part of Australia's Soundwave Festival (video below), DevilDriver singer Dez Fafara has announced that he in talks with the House Of Blues in West Hollywood, California in order to have COAL CHAMBER perform their first Los Angeles-area show in over 10 years.

Earlier this year, during an interview with Australia's Loud magazine, Dez talked about how the COAL CHAMBER reunion came about: "In '05, Meegs [Miguel Rascón, guitar] started coming around. He apologized to my wife for the way things went down with COAL CHAMBER, because when COAL CHAMBER split up I had to move my family into a one-bedroom apartment and start all over. So when he apologized to my wife, I thought, 'Well, OK, he's got a big heart inside him. And he's clean off the hard drugs now, let's see if this goes awhile.' So let's fast forward a few years to '09, he and Mikey [Mike Cox, drums] were still clean off hard drugs, Meegs came out and did 'Loco' onstage with DevilDriver. After that he gave me a hug onstage and in my ear he said, 'Let's do this again.'"

haarp Is Ready To Jam With DOWN; NEW Album Due Out In September!

New Orleans Metallers, haarp, will embark on an eight-date journey next month supporting DOWN. Set to commence on September 21 in Saint Louis, Missouri, the band will bring their sonic wreckage through the Midwest and down the East Coast, coming to a close on September 29 in Sayreville, New Jersey. See confirmed dates below.

haarp will be touring in support of their soon-to-be-unleashed 'Husks' full-length. Set for release on September 18, 2012 through Housecore Records, the follow-up to 2010’s 'The Filth' was recorded at the University of New Orleans Performing Arts Center, Fountainbleau Room 7011, and Nodferatu’s Lair by Philip H. Anselmo, engineered by Steve Berrigan and Nathan Weidenhaft and mastered at Visceral Sounds by Scott Hull.

Said HeavyPlanet in an early review of the three-song beast: “Planting their feet as sludge Metal gods, haarp take their time trimming the fat and let the truth simmer. Between the sludge barrages and atmospheric back roads is tempered, expertly-timed black gold. The band's proficient but patient approach is lined with beautifully rich and vile vision. Husks isn't merely another NOLA sludge-Metal record; it's a sonic catapult for a band wholly deserving of every accolade they accrue. Take a walk through these rotting woods and sink with your sorrow. When the animals finally smell your stink, haarp will be waiting.” Adds Metal Underground: “This album is very balanced, as its some of the heaviest stuff ever made, but with those tones of airiness and ambiance that lift it up just enough…. Quite possibly haarp's best album.”

For pre-order info, point your browser HERE.

haarp tour 2012 with Down:

- 9/21/2012: Pop's Nightclub in Saint Louis, Mo
- 9/22/2012: House of Blues Chicago in Chicago, IL
- 9/23/2012: The Crofoot in Pontiac, MI
- 9/25/2012: House of Blues Boston in Boston, MA
- 9/26/2012: Electric Factory in Philadelphia, PA
- 9/27/2012: Mojo Main in Newark, DE
- 9/28/2012: Best Buy Theater in New York, NY
- 9/29/2012: Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ

Due to unforeseen events which occurred late in the summer of 2005, members of various disbanded projects came together to forge haarp. Featuring a collective of New Orleans grindcore, punk, and metal scene alumni, haarp embody the murk, decay, and oppression associated with their home city. haarp’s music is a visceral wall of low-end sound; its lyrics a journey through despair, hatred, self loathing, and aggression. haarp will be decimating a city near you. Further details to be announced in the coming days.

haarp is:
Shaun Emmons- Vocals
Keith Sierra Jr.- Drums
Grant Tom- Guitar
Bret Davis- Bass

FAITH NO MORE's Mike Patton Says No To NEW Music!

Following their mini tour in 2010, FAITH NO MORE have been laying low and so far the band hasn't announced a full comeback tour and album. However, the band did perform this past June in Europe at a series of shows.

Mike Patton recently told Australia's News.com.au that FAITH NO MORE have no plans to work on NEW material anytime in the near future. "We're pretty happy with just touring. There was talk: 'Should we write new stuff?' and we all looked at each other and said 'Nahhh, fuck it.' We did work up one NEW little thing [a song with the working title 'Matador', performance footage of which can be seen below] and that was really energizing."

Patton previously told RollingStone.com: "Reunions can be done very distastefully I think, and we were all very worried about that. But I think we were all very surprised with how good it felt. It's a tired old script: band splits up, gets hard up for cash, goes on tour and records a shitty record. We don't want to be part of that kind of history."

CRADLE OF FILTH Reveal Album Cover For 'The Manticore & Other Horrors'!

As previously reported, UK extreme Metal act Cradle of Filth, has announced an October 30th North American release date for the band’s 10th studio album, 'The Manticore & Other Horrors', out just in time for Halloween courtesy of Nuclear Blast Records.

Recorded in eight weeks at both Springvale and Grindstone studios (where it was also mixed by Scott Atkins), Suffolk, the album is a testament to the longevity of The 'Filth, as not only does it reek of Cradle's (feared or revered) brand of delicious metal vamperotica, but this thoroughly modern album places the band firmly in fresh killing fields anew.

'The Manticore & Other Horrors' itself possesses an altogether new atmosphere for the band, incorporating a heavier, faster NWOBBM Punk vibe that is both current and cruel, blended with ornate orchestration and the quirky immediateness of 2000's 'Midian' opus.

The album’s title can be likened to a bestiary, a collection of stories on monsters -  personal demons, Chimeras, literary fiends and world-enslaving entities to blame but a few. “Manticore,” the ravening title track, is a song about a beautiful mythological horror that comes to be feared as the disfigurehead of foreign occupation in the Indian provinces.

The songs “Illicitus” and “Pallid Reflection” bare the sweet ingredients of vampirism and lycanthropy; the wicked “For Your Vulgar Delectation” and “Frost On Her Pillow” are woven perversely into grim fairy tales, whilst classic, monumental tracks like “The Abhorrent and Siding With The Titans” both extol tentacular Lovecraftian values.

Cradle of Filth will spread its darkness upon European lands with a tour throughout November and December.

Here is the album cover for Cradle Of Filth's 'The Manticore & Other Horrors'.
